Celebrate

I'm all for finding reasons to celebrate. For example, today is National Boss/Employee Exchange Day. Well the actual date has a bit of question, as I found it noted everywhere from the 7th to the 13th, but regardless, I think that this one has some major potential.

As I found on one website, the purpose of this holiday is simple...
Help bosses and employees appreciate each other by sharing each other's point of view. Why don't you switch positions for the day? A great way to get a clear perspective of one another's job.

Note: for simplicity purposes I will discuss bosses as if they were male. No I am not sexist. I just have a male boss and it's easier to not say him/her and he/she all the time.

Do you like your boss? Do you want to be like him? Today's your day! Or do you hate your boss? Want to make his life as miserable as he makes yours? Again... here's your chance!

Of course, if they ever have a "Swap jobs with your EX-boss day", I bet a lot of people would jump in line to participate! What easier way to get that last paycheck that you're owed without having to file a lawsuit!

Now I will be honest here... my boss is a boss. You know... a supervisor - someone in management. YUCK! He really IS a good boss... he listens to my ideas and values my input, and he lets me know that he recognizes my skills. The issue is that I have no desire to have his job, even for a day. I have never wanted to have to do all the busywork associated with a management position. I'd much rather be a peon who does what she is good at than a supervisor who has to deal with all of the hassles.

Just thinking about exchanging jobs is enough to make me appreciate my job a bit more. And perhaps that is the REAL benefit of today.

I'd rather cut off my left breast be in the position of my boss for even ONE day. Noooooo thank you. If I wanted to be an administrator and wade through complete shit all day long, I would have jumped ship long ago!

Now that was fucking hilarious. Not only would I get my last pay check... but I'd fire her ass too.

Kudos.

It cracks you up Jas, cuz you know that she *must* be directly referring to me and my situation! *grawr*...Let it be known I'd be taking a lot more than just my final paycheck home with me, that's for damn sure.

Three stories I heard from co-workers about how they or others got canned from other jobs:

#1) guy gets called into the head boss' office and he's met there by the HR head who is holding a box of Kleenex!

#2) guy shows up for work and his security access keycard for the front door of the office doesn't work; HR meets him, hands him a check, and says "nice knowing you"

#3) guy #1 comes into work and sees his co-worker, guy #2, in their supervisor's office sitting at the supervisor's desk. Guy #1 asks "what's goin' on?" and #2 asks "what do you think of this company?" #1 says "it's OK, it could be better... but it's a paycheck!" #2 responds "I was promoted to the new supervisor position when [the old boss] got fired (the day before, unbeknownst to guy #1) and I am getting rid of 'dead weight' around here. You're fired".

Is there a "National Return Stuff You Took from the Office Day"?

There should be a free swap site like craigslist just for people to exchange stuff they've liberated from employers' supply closets!

(not that I participate in that kind of activity, of course)
